Abstract

This research is based on the optimalization of utilizing natural resources and advanced technology which is cheap, simple and effective accompanied by regulation and development of agricultural institutions in rural area. One of technologies that can be used is combining farming and animal husbandry known as integrated farming system. The problem in this research was the characteristics of integrated farming model of rice-cattle had not been known yet. The research was conducted to describe the integrated farming model characteristics of rice-cattle. Distescriptive analysis was used to describe the characteristics. Characteristics of integrated farming model of rice-cattle are: a) Small scale: area of rice field 0.10 - 0.3 hectares (ha); varieties of seeds are Junjuang, A2 and Bakwan, 40 kg seeds/ha; the kinds of cattle are Simmental, Bali and Limousine, 1-5 cattles; fertilizers used are manure 500-1,500 kg/ha, compost 400 kg/ha, urea 150-300 kg/ha, SP-36 40-100 kg/ha, NPK Phonska 50-167 kg/ha, ZA 8-10 kg/ha; medicines for worm and vitamin; utilization of fresh straw for cattle feed; utilization of manure for rice; b) Medium scale: area of rice field 0.5 - 0.7 ha; varieties of seeds are Junjuang, Sokan, Bakwan, Kuriah and Banang Pulau, 30-50 kg seeds/ha; the kinds of cattle are Simmental and Brahman, 6-10 cattles; fertilizer used: manure 715-900 kg/ha, compost 600-1,200 kg/ha, urea 200-250 kg/ha, SP-36 60-100 kg/ha, NPK Phonska 25-200 kg/ha; medicines for worm and vitamin; utilization of fresh straw as cattle feed; utilization of manure for rice; c) Large scale: area of rice field 1.0 - 5.0 ha; varieties of seeds are Kuriah, Junjuang, A2 and Putiah Bukittingi, 30-40 kg seeds/ha; the kinds of cattle are Simmental, Bali and Brahman, 11-135 cattles; fertilizers used: compost 500-1,000 kg/ha, urea 100-200 kg/ha, SP-36 50 kg/ha, and NPK Phonska 50-200 kg/ha; medicines for worm and vitamin; utilization of fermented straw for cattle feed; utilization of compost for rice.
