Abstract

This research is based on the increasing demand for corn for chicken feed that is always increasing with the growth of industrial chicken feed, but it is not accompanied by an increase in corn production. In Lima Puluh Kota Regency, chicken population growth from year to year is increasing, in 2007 was 4.597.448 tails, so it need corn for chicken feed was 82.946,93 tonnes, while corn production in 2007 was only 10.849.35 tonnes. So the demand for corn that can be filled only by 13.08%. This condition indicates that corn demand for chicken feed could not be filled by the production of corn. The purpose of this research are: 1) To determine the number of corn demand and supply as chicken feed. 2) To analyze what factors are affecting the supply of corn as chicken feed, 3) To analyze what factors are affecting the demand of corn as chicken feed. The results of research showed: 1) Average growth of total supply of corn for chicken feed is 4,63% per year, while the average number of corn supply for chicken feed was 17.678,06 tonnes per year, Average growth of total demand of corn for chicken feed is 19,73% per year, while the average number of corn demand for chicken feed was 39.753,70 tonnes per year; 2) The factors which significantly influence on the supply of corn was the price of fertilizer, maize land and the agricultural technology, 3) The factors which significantly influence on the demand of corn was the price of bran, the number of breeder and chicken population.
