Abstract

the shortage of fertilizer is one of significance factor that led to quality and quantity degradation of agriqultural yields. on the other hand many farmers still have to deal the large amounts of agricultural wastes which nowdays are still treated improperly. this community develompment program objectives are to overcome the problems, as well as to reduce production cost and to conserve environment by introducing medium-capacity chopper to agricultural industry. the chopper was designed by using functional and structural approaches to determine the proper of the machine components. the chopper has dimension 170x100x110 cm with hopper 55x60 cm and 50 cm in diameter cylinder chopping room, this machine was equipped with engine 24 hp. after conducting performance test, it was found that the capacity is 198,2 kg per hour at 289 rpm. furthermore, break event point, benefit-cost ratio and net present value are 6.014.076kg, 1,44 and 24.786.400 respectively. industrial partner in this program is usaha tani terpadu putra sahyu located at salido pesisir selatan west sumatra
