Abstract

eforts to lessen the using of inorganic fertilizer and move to using organic fertilizer is the best way to increase the quality of soil and plant continually. the objective of this research were (1) to determine the effect of compost and inorganic fertilizer toward the growth and production maize plants and (2) to get the right compost formula in subtituting inorganic fertilizer. the research was conducted at experiment field of polytechnic payakumbuh elevated at 500 m bove sea level. testing of compost an inorganic fertilizer on growth and replications, first factor of compost treatment given banana hump IMO level 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% second factor dosage of inorganic fertilizer 0%, 50%, 100% from recommendation, so that obtained 12 treatments. observations were made on plant height, relative growth rate (RGR), yield component, and maize production. the result showed that compost treatment affected the production of maize. inorganic fertilizer treatment affected the length and width of cob, the number of lines each cob, the number of seed each cob, the weight of 100 grains, and the production of maize. the teratment of compost with IMO 30% dosage and 50% inorganic fertilizer dosage of recommendation given best nutrient uptake and corn production
