Abstract

Corn is the main food commodity after wheat and rice are relied on to support the National food program. The increasing demand for corn cannot be offset by National corn production. Efforts to increase production can be done by increasing the productivity of soil and plants. One of the production technologies used by using bacteria that can stimulate plant growth. Endophytic bacteria isolated from the roots of maize plants have the potential to promote plant growth. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of application of corn endophytic bacteria on the physiological quality of corn seeds. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Food Crop Cultivation of the State Agricultural Polytechnic of Payakumbuh. Five bacterial isolates were identified from corn roots. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 10 treatments and three replications. Treatments included Control/without bacteria (A), Pseudomonas azotoformans (B), Bacillus paramycoides (C), Bacillus licheniformis (D), Bacillus pacifocus (E), Bacillus aerophilus (F), P. azotoformans + B. paramycoides (G), P azotoformans + B. licheniformis (H), P. azotoformans + B. pacificus (I), P. azotoformans + B. aerophylus (J). Results data were analyzed by Variance at 95% and 99% confidence levels. The results showed that the combination of P. azotoformans bacteria with Bacillus genera was able to increase viability, seedling height growth, root length, wet weight and dry corn seeds. Keywords: endophytic bacteria, Pseudomonas azotoformans, isolate
