Abstract

The main cause of atherosclerosis that can lead to coronary heart disease (CHD) characterized by increased cholesterol in the blood. One way to overcome it necessary probiotic food like yogurt and strawberry extract can lower cholesterol levels in the blood. This study wanted to find out and prove that the administration of yogurt and strawberry extract to give effect to the blood serum cholesterol levels of white rat Rattus norvegicus hiperkolesterolemi. The result is expected as a reference in the development of theoretical and practical science of biochemistry as one alternative reduction hypercholesterolemia which refers to the application of the concept, in which high-cholesterol diet resulted in a marked hypercholesterolemia with increased cholesterol levels. Through the course of treatment of yogurt, strawberry extract, yogurt and strawberry extract, just strawberry extract is expected to decrease total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. The design of this study used a randomized pretest and posttest control design, the kind of experimental laboratory. This sample using mice as experimental animals were 30 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar males weighing about 200 gr were divided into six groups, each of five tails, such as positive control(K+) fed hiperkolesterolemik,negative control (K- ) fed a standard diet, the treatment group 1 (P1) were given yogurt 2 ml/200grBW/day, treatment group 2 (P2) are given 2 ml/200grBW/day strawberry extract, treatment group 3 (P3) who were given yogurt and strawberry extract 2 ml/200grBW/day and treatment groups 4 (P4) that were given yogurt and strawberry extract 3 ml/200grBW/day. All treatments of strawberry yogurt and strawberry extract provided during the 30 days, then measured total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol in the blood serum of rats before and after treatment. Data were analyzed by one way ANOVA with software Statistix 8 followed by Least Significant Defference (LSD) test. The results of this study illustrate that the administration of 2 ml/200grBW/day yogurt, strawberry extract 2ml/200grBW/day, yogurt and strawberry extract dose 2ml/200grBW/day and dose 3 ml/200grBW/day strawberry extract to give tangible effect on serum cholesterol total and LDL cholesterol of albino rats and gave no real effect on HDL cholesterol levels of albino rats.
