Abstract
This study investigates the reading habit among students of Payakumbuh Polytechnic of Agriculture by using descriptive study case through survey and interview. The survey gives an overview of Politani students’ reading habit in terms of reading preferences, time and duration of reading, the number of book owned, past experience influenced and obstacles faced by students in reading. By all account, students at Payakumbuh Polytechnic of Agriculture does not have a good reading habit. The duration of reading is still low, the number of books collection is not many and the reading frequency is still far from the ideal one. The interview indicates the similar viewpoint from the lecturers. Students are still difficult to read heavy text and having no self-motivation to read despite all those assignments given to increase their reading interest. Key words: reading, habit, students
